There’s now at least one open seat on the Tennessee hype train.
College football analyst Dave Bartoo doesn’t believe the Volunteers are the most talented bunch in their own conference, let alone a College Football Playoff contender.
“Florida (and) Georgia talent-wise are better than Tennessee,” Bartoo told The Paul Finebaum Show on Wednesday. “I don’t buy that the Vols are a national title contender.”
Much of the optimism surrounding Tennessee has been generated internally, too. Coach Butch Jones labeled running back Jalen Hurd as the best back in the country. Defensive end Jonathan Kongbo guaranteed that Tennessee would end its long losing streak against Florida and seemed to hint at an undefeated season in Knoxville, Tenn., as well.
The Volunteers haven’t shied away from the limelight this offseason. Time will tell whether Bartoo’s minority opinion is the prevailing one.
