Canales made $178,500 last season as Utah State’s running backs and associate head coach, according to a USA Today coaching salaries database. Previously, Canales was the offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach at North Texas.
The former Utah State assistant has nearly 30 years of college coaching experience, while also serving as the New York Jets wide receivers coach in 2013. Other stops include South Florida (2007-09), Arizona (2004-06) and North Carolina State (2001-02).
While with North Carolina State, Canales coached San Diego Chargers quarterback Philip Rivers for two seasons.
Scott’s new contract is still being completed, according to Brown.
