The Celebration of Life for late Tennessee Lady Vols basketball coach Pat Summitt is planned for Thursday at 7 p.m. (ET) at Thompson-Boling Arena in Knoxville.
The program is free and open to the public, and will be televised by ESPN2. A news release has specified that those in attendance be in their seats with cell phones on silent 30 minutes prior to the start of the ceremony. Summitt died at the age of 64 on June 28 after a battle with Alzheimer’s. Her passing sparked mourning from Vols greats like Peyton Manning and Phillip Fulmer, and even President Barack Obama. Her death has already caused hundreds of Vols fans to gather at Knoxville to mourn as well.
Summitt achieved an unprecedented amount of success during her tenure at Tennessee. It featured 16 SEC regular season championships, 16 SEC tournament championships, eight NCAA championships, eight SEC Coach of the Year awards, seven NCAA Coach of the Year awards and an award for the Naismith Coach of the 20th Century.
