Even though he was raised well south of Knoxville in Cleveland, Tenn., that didn’t stop Jamie Becker from being raised as a Vols fan, mostly by his father.
After his father, Rickey, died of pancreatic cancer in 2008, Becker found a way to honor him while also supporting the Vols, something that likely would make his father proud.
Before each Tennessee rivalry game, Becker spray paints his father’s gravesite with an orange-and-white checkerboard, as seen here in this story by WATE-TV in Knoxville.
Becker told WATE that making the checkerboard takes an hour to 90 minutes, but it will last there for a few months.
“He wasn’t real big on flowers. So, we thought of this and this became a tradition,” Beckler told WATE.
The Vols host Alabama on Saturday at 3:30 p.m. ET, a big matchup as they take on the top-ranked team in the nation, so it’s fair to say Becker probably spray painted his father’s gravesite this week.
