Fan Sound Off: Tennessee fans saying last goodbyes to Butch Jones

The good news is that Tennessee scored its first touchdown in 28 days.

The bad news? Even that touchdown was marred by ugliness as No. 1 Alabama drubbed the Vols 45-7 during Week 8 action.

Rashaan Gaulden did his teammates no favors after Daniel Bituli’s 97-yard interception return for the Vols’ first touchdown in 12 quarters. Upon hitting the end zone, Gaulden celebrated by promptly flipping off the Bryant-Denny Stadium crowd.

Alabama, namely linebacker Mack Wilson, got the last laugh with a red-zone interception of its own to quash Tennessee’s best opportunity to punch in an offensive score.

It all equated to a disaster of an afternoon for Butch Jones and Tennessee.

Volunteers fans, naturally, were not very happy after the game. Vols are starting to say their goodbyes to their maligned coach.

Kecia Hutson Strunk: I’m in agreement this morning the worst team and the football player from Tennessee that birded the Alabama fans needs not come back. That was immature and classless.

Dallas Bare: So we finally score a touchdown, and our 1st response is a double bird when we’re down 28-7? That’s not the UT I have grown to know and love. Very disappointing season, but on the bright side we only lost to the spread by 1.

Michael Bogan: Bama’s backups are more talented than Tennessee ever will be.. And the entire Tide roster played like crap today or the score would easily have been doubled! Butch isn’t even in the same zip code as Saban when it comes to being a coach either!

Gene Masoner: The game was the worst. We have no offense and I cant understand what is going on. I am [ticked] its time to get this program back to where it use to be. If I hurt someones feelings but I don’t think Butch is the man. He is not getting it done and it doesn’t look like there us any discipline on the team. Thank you defense for putting up 7 so we were not shut out.

Donald Beck: No bench…..no running game…. no passing game…. no defense. I love the VOLS but Bama had 3rd and 4th stringers busting open plays. When will the bleeding end? We are supposed to be 6-1 right now and we are 3-4. Sad.

Sunny Goller: I was rooting for Butch I really was. They need to start planning for the next coach? Not sure who They could get. 5 coaches in 10 or so years. Who would come to UT? Seriously??

Joe Hurley: Well two hands to the face that didn’t happen helped Alabama. But our coaches suck. And yes if it’s below the chin it’s not hands to the face and both were below the chin.

Sharon Standefer Liendecker: Better than I thought it would be.

Mark Bacon: Yeah, ouch! Did we expect anything better? At least they didn’t hang 60.

Christian Johnson: Game was closer than score reflects.
