Former Tennessee basketball star Jimmy England died Thursday of cancer at 67 years old, family members told Tom Mattingly of Go Vols Xtra.
England was a two-time All-SEC player for the Volunteers 1970-71. The Knoxville-native left Tennessee with the third most points in school history.
He was also the state’s Mr. Tennessee basketball in 1967. He averaged 20.1 points per game in his senior year with the Volunteers.
England was inducted into the Tennessee Sports Hall of Fame in 2015 and was honored as Tennessee’s SEC Legend at the SEC Men’s Basketball Tournament in 2011.
The player nicknamed “Mr. Clutch” was one of Tennessee’s great players.
