Tennessee and Virginia Tech fans are looking forward to watching their respective teams face off in what has been dubbed “The Battle at Bristol” at Bristol Motor Speedway on Sept. 10.
Former Tennessee and current Dallas Cowboys tight end Jason Witten is obviously pulling for the Vols, but Witten’s brother, Shawn, played receiver at Virginia Tech. So, of course, Jason couldn’t resist throwing a verbal barb at Shawn during his annual football camp in Elizabethton, Tenn.
“I think he knows the deal,” Jason told WJHL’s Kane O’Neill. “He doesn’t need me to trash talk, he knows the Hokies don’t have much of a chance in that one.”
You have to love Witten pointing out that he doesn’t need to trash talk before deliberately trash talking. There’s nothing like a sibling rivalry.
Nonetheless, there will be a a lot of excitement surrounding the game with it being held in a unique venue for a football game. The Vols will likely be favored in the contest and Witten wishes he could suit up to play for Tennessee one last time.
“I think it’s going to be great,” Witten said. “It seems like they’ve been talking about that for twenty years and now it’s finally actually happening. Two great programs right here, couldn’t be in a better place where football is such a pivotal part of families.
“I would’ve love to have played in it. Not only for the fans, but for the players and the entire community, I think it’s going to be a great experience.”
