Tennessee fans are rightfully frustrated after losing to Florida last weekend, and one former player is speaking his mind.
Former Vols WR Jayson Swain (2003-06) joined The Paul Finebaum Show Thursday to discuss Butch Jones’ status and his outlook on the Tennessee program.
“Tennessee fans, they want to see Tennessee take that next step,” he told Finebaum. “Nine players suspended for Florida, opportunity there on the table for Tennessee, and they came up a little bit short.
“The SEC East is still open, but fans right now are rightfully upset, and I understand why they are.”
Swain also commented on Jones’ rebuilding effort, which is now in year five after taking over from Derek Dooley.
“We understand that it takes time to rebuild from the Dooley years,” Swain said. “We’ve been patient, and we should continue to be patient to a certain extent, but, again, it’s Year Five.
“It is time to get it done, there’s no more excuses. It’s time for results.”
In his career, Swain caught 126 passes for 1,721 yards and 10 scores.
Tennessee plays UMass in Knoxville on Saturday at 12 p.m. ET before resuming SEC play in Week 5.
