Tennessee will have an additional punter on its roster for 2016, as Brandon Nickle announced his intention to play for the Volunteers this season.
Nickle a 5-foot-10, 180-pound prospect from Oak Ridge, Tenn., had committed to Virginia Tech in April, but he declined to enroll at the school over the summer, 247Sports’ Evan G. Watkins reported. Nickle wrote the following Saturday on Twitter:
“Over the past few weeks it looked as if I might not be able to continue my football career in college. However, I was lucky enough to be recruited once again by my dream school. I feel extremely blessed to announced that I will be continuing my education and football career at the University of Tennessee!”
Nickle joins a Volunteers team that has two other punters in junior Trevor Daniel, the team’s punter last season, and fellow freshman Grayson Linde. Daniel’s season average of 45.7 yards per kick ranked eighth nationally and second in the SEC in 2015.
