Justin Hunter found not guilty of assault and battery charge
Former Tennessee wide receiver Justin Hunter was found not guilty of a misdemeanor assault and battery charge Tuesday stemming from a July incident in his hometown of Virginia Beach, Va., according to the Associated Press.
Hunter, now a member of the Tennessee Titans, was originally charged with a felony after allegedly assaulting a man at a bar during the Fourth of July weekend, according to sportingnews.com. The incident resulted in the victim’s jaw breaking. His charge was reduced to a misdemeanor in August.
Hunter’s case was scheduled to appear in court on Sept. 1 and continued to Tuesday after a witness for the defense — who the receiver’s attorneys claimed was the actual person who punched the alleged victim, failed to appear.
Hunter played at Tennessee from 2010-12. He recorded 1,812 yards and 18 touchdowns on 106 career receptions before being selected by the Titans in the second round of the 2013 NFL Draft.
