What is the perfect complement to the first SEC football game to be played on the infield of a NASCAR racetrack?
A country music concert, that’s what.
It was announced on Tuesday that country music star Kenny Chesney will headline a concert at Bristol Motor Speedway on the night before the Vols and Virginia Tech take the field this fall.
Chesney will be joined by Old Dominion and The Band Perry as part of Bristol’s Tailgate Party on Friday, Sept. 9.

The Vols will play Virginia Tech in the 160,000 seat venue on Saturday, Sept. 10.
The Knoxville News Sentinel’s Grant Ramey reports that it will be the first appearance at Bristol Motor Speedway in 13 years for Chesney. The beach-themed country singer hails from East Tennessee and claims the Vols as one of his favorite teams, making this concert a homecoming of sorts.
Tickets for the event reportedly go on sale on June 8.
