Raynoch Thompson, a linebacker on Tennessee’s 1998 national championship team, was arrested this past weekend on a misdemeanor assault charge and failure to obey a judge’s orders, according to The Knoxville News-Sentinel.
Per the report, Thompson is alleged to have attacked a roommate before threatening to kill him in a South Knoxville grocery store parking lot. His bond has been set at $4,000.
Thompson, according to a warrant obtained by the News-Sentinel, had been living with Francisco Rodriguez because he had no home. But Rodriguez wanted Thompson out, to which the former defender had reportedly complied. All of this preceded the alleged assault.
Thompson earned All-American honors with the Vols in 1999 and then became a second-round NFL draft pick of the Arizona Cardinals. He has been out of football since 2004.
In February 2015, Thompson was arrested in Knoxville for reportedly stealing 23 packs of “energy pills.”
