The Jalen Hurd saga took another turn on Tuesday.
After Tennessee head coach Butch Jones announced that Jalen Hurd was transferring many rumors began to swirl about why one of Tennessee’s best running backs in program history would leave in the middle of the season.
And a man who is allegedly close to Hurd, post a video putting to rest some theories.
A man by the name of Arthur Smotherman, who is allegedly Hurd’s stepfather, posted a lengthy rant on Facebook trying to quell a number of rumors.
Smotherman vehemently denied the idea that Hurd was benched during the Georgia game or at any point in his Tennessee career. Smotherman said that Hurd actually picked up a concussion in the Georgia game which is why he missed the Texas A&M game.
“The truth of the matter is, Jalen Hurd had a concussion at the Georgia game,” Smotherman said in the video. “It didn’t happen on the end zone play, it happened in the beginning of the third quarter when he fell on his head.”
Smotherman did not attempt to speak for Hurd and said that when Hurd is ready he will speak. The junior running back left Tennessee as the No. 6 rusher in program history.
The Volunteers will look to pick up a win on Saturday against Tennessee Tech.
