Tennessee fans can rest a bit easier until National Signing Day.
The Vols appear to have a firm hold on linebacker Ja’Quain Blakely from Colquitt County High School (Moultrie, Ga.). That wasn’t exactly the case late last month. Despite being committed to the Vols since August, the three-star linebacker said he was considering an official visit to Florida after the Gators came on strong.
Now, the 6-foot-2, 220-pound prospect said that visit isn’t likely.
“Nah, I haven’t even thought about it,” Blakely told SEC Country. “I’m probably not going to do it.”
Blakely has said all along that he doesn’t believe he’ll reconsider his recruitment. Of course, he could still change his mind. However, he seems as committed to Tennessee as a prospect could possibly be based on his Twitter account. Blakely constantly mentions the Vols in a positive light.
When reached by SEC Country on Sunday, Blakely didn’t seem at all dismayed that the Vols changed defensive coordinators even though former Tennessee defensive coordinator John Jancek was one of his primary recruiters. In fact, Blakely endorsed the hire of former Penn State defensive coordinator Bob Shoop.
Blakely is set to take his official visit to Tennessee on Jan. 29. He is the No. 41 outside linebacker in the nation and the No. 49 overall prospect in Georgia, according to 247Sports’ composite ranking.
