A petition to change the name of the NCAA women’s basketball championship trophy to honor Pat Summitt, who died on Tuesday morning has made its way online.
Summitt was a legendary coaching figure across all of college basketball. Her 1,098 wins is the most of any men’s or women’s college basketball coach. The petition was posted on Change.org
“Pat Summitt gave her all for women’s basketball from driving the bus and washing the teams’ uniforms to earning gold medals for her country. She helped build the sport into what it is today and opened a doorway for young women to earn college degrees and to play professionally in the WNBA. The NCAA should name the championship trophy in her honor so every young girl can learn what can be achieved through determination and hard work,” the post states.
The post is just one example of the many responses fans had to the venerable coach’s death.
