There’s little doubt the upcoming game between Tennessee and Virginia Tech at Bristol Motor Speedway is a prime time event.
So it makes sense that it will receive prime-time treatment on television.
According to WNML’s Jimmy Hyams, the Vols and Hokies will play at 8 p.m. on Sept. 10, with the game slated to be aired on ABC.

VolQuest.com’s John Brice indicated that a formal announcement about the time and television station could come as soon as Thursday. He also reports that it is only the second time that Tennessee will have a prime time game on ABC since 2007, with the 2014 game at Oklahoma as the only exception.
It’s the latest in a string of news stories coming from the hyped “Battle at Bristol” contest. On Tuesday, it was revealed that country music star Kenny Chesney will headline a tailgate concert on the Friday night before the game.
As for the football game, it will be just the second game at Virginia Tech coach Justin Fuente, who parlayed an impressive run at Memphis into becoming the replacement for legendary coach Frank Beamer in Blacksburg, Va.
For the Vols, it serves as an opportunity for Butch Jones’ squad to set the tone for what is expected to be a special 2016 season in front of a national audience. A blowout win in this game could push the Tennessee program into the center of the national discussion following Week 2.
