Senior defensive tackle Danny O’Brien was dismissed from the Tennessee football team on Monday.
Details as to why the dismissal took place were revealed on Thursday by The Sports Animal host Jimmy Hyams, who cited two sources.

The dismissal took place two days after the senior was carted off the field with an apparent head injury during the Vols’ double overtime loss to Texas A&M last weekend.
O’Brien made helmet-to-helmet contact with an Aggies player, and stayed down on the field for a prolonged time. He was taken to the hospital, and released later that night.
The Flint, Mich., native tweeted that he takes “full responsibility” for the dismissal on Monday.
His teammates were surprised by the news on Tuesday.
“He was a great mentor for me. I really had no clue. I saw on social media,” Junior safety Todd Kelly Jr. told SEC Country’s Jesse Simonton. “That’s how I found out. I wasn’t really sure what went down. I know his phone was blowing up probably, so I didn’t text him or ask what happened or anything like that. I was kind of perplexed when I heard the news.”
Given the news, junior college transfer Alexis Johnson will likely make his Tennessee debut against Alabama on Saturday.
