Many have wondered when Tennessee was going to hire a new athletic director. And it appears Volunteers fans may have an answer in the form of Phillip Fulmer.
According to John Brice of 247Sports, sources say that the hiring of the former Tennessee head football coach is “almost done” and “all but done.” ESPN‘s Chris Low reported earlier on Monday that Fulmer had emerged as a prime candidate for the opening.
Fulmer won a national championship at Tennessee and went 152-52 in his time at the school from 1992 to 2008. Current athletic director Dave Hart is set to retire this summer.
The spike in the news regarding Tennessee’s athletic director search comes a day after Alabama swiftly brought in Arizona athletic director Greg Byrne to replace Bill Battle. It was announced Sunday night that Battle was stepping down due to health issues.
