Tennessee defensive tackle Danny O’Brien has been dismissed from the program.
As reported by Jesse Simonton of SEC Country, O’Brien was dismissed Monday evening for a violation of team rules, two days after the defensive tackle was carted off the field with an apparent head injury during a loss to Texas A&M at Kyle Field. As reported by Simonton, the dismissal is unrelated to the injury the player sustained. Tennessee said it still will cover any medical needs.
O’Brien made helmet-to-helmet contact with an Aggies player during the sequence that caused the injury, and he stayed down on the field for a prolonged time. Teammates stood around him in support as he was placed on a stretcher. He was taken to the hospital but released later Saturday.
O’Brien returned with his teammates to Knoxville, Tenn., on Saturday.
