Tennessee to play Northwestern in Outback Bowl
Tennessee will head to Tampa, Fla., for its postseason action.
The Vols (8-4, 5-3 SEC) will take on Northwestern (10-2, 6-2 Big Ten) in the Outback Bowl on Jan. 1 at Raymond James Stadium, the school announced Sunday.
The Wildcats finished tied for second in the Big Ten West this season and will enter the game on a five-game winning streak. Northwestern’s only two losses came against Michigan and Iowa, while the Wildcats picked up respectable victories over Stanford, Nebraska, Penn State and Wisconsin.
The teams have faced off just once before, and Tennessee picked up a 48-28 win in the 1997 Florida Citrus Bowl. The Vols will also enter the New Year’s Day bowl game on a five-game winning streak.
