KNOXVILLE, Tenn. — One of Butch Jones’ longtime lieutenants is no longer on staff at Tennessee.
Chris Spognardi, the Vols director of football operations, was placed on paid administrative leave on Tuesday night, Tennessee Senior Athletics Director for Communications Ryan Robinson confirmed to SEC Country.
The news was first reported by WNML radio host Jimmy Hyams and 247Sports’ John Brice.
Spognardi was one of Jones’ initial hires at Tennessee, as the two have worked together for the last eight years at UT, Cincinnati and Central Michigan. Spognardi graduated from CMU in 2008 and served in multiple roles under Jones at various stops.
Spognardi was Tennessee’s assistant to the head coach until 2014 when he was promoted to director of football operations.
