Tennessee’s most prominent target to replace departed defensive coordinator John Jancek is reportedly in Knoxville Friday. Penn State defensive coordinator Bob Shoop is reportedly meeting with Tennessee’s administrators.

Shoop is considered one of the top defensive coordinator candidates in the nation. The Vols parted ways with Jancek earlier this week, and Shoop was reportedly pursued by Auburn before turning the position down.
Penn State ranked No. 26 in scoring defense last season despite a struggling offense. Shoop is a Pennsylvania native which could work against the Vols. Thanks, in part, to interest from other schools, Shoop’s annual salary is thought to be approximately $1-million annually, according FoxSports.com’s Bruce Feldman.
Shoop coached at Vanderbilt from 2011 to 2013, meaning he would have recruiting ties in the mid-state area, which is a key territory for Tennessee.
