SEC Network’s Peter Burns had nice words to share about Tennessee after a fan accused him of “bashing” the program.
On Tuesday, the analyst answered a fan who complained on Twitter about “national media” members who have jumped “on the bashing Tennessee” bandwagon. Not surprisingly, Burns didn’t agree with that take and responded by writing that he hadn’t “bashed” the Vols. He added Tennessee is a proud program that will recover.
You can see the entire exchange below.
Sure, Tennessee left itself open to “bashing” with a coaching search that dragged on and on before athletic director Phillip Fulmer hired Alabama defensive coordinator Jeremy Pruitt to lead the Vols into a new era.
Certainly, some were critical of the Vols, especially after then-athletic director John Currie led a search that resulted in a fan uprising after a reported agreement with Ohio State defensive coordinator Greg Schiano. There wasn’t shortage of headlines produced in Knoxville before the situation calmed down.
At this point, Tennessee’s concern should be about the future. Pruitt’s hire offers a chance for renewed optimism. Vols fans hope he delivers positive results soon.
