Tennessee should receive a signed letter of intent from Brant Lawless on Wednesday. The Nashville native has been in the fold for the Class of 2018 since the beginning of May.
- Even during the long 4-8 season and coaching search which spiraled into a bit of a national punch line, Lawless never wavered. Lawless told SEC Country he was excited about the Jeremy Pruitt hire for the Vols. The idea of having a defensive-minded coach appeals to him. Lawless grew up a Tennessee fan and has enjoyed watching Vols games his entire life.
- Lawless is a quiet, mild-mannered guy who is all about his team over himself. Don’t expect him to seek headlines when he comes to Knoxville. Lawless works hard and lets his play talk for him.
- Lawless stands 6-foot-3 and weighs 280 pounds. His athleticism sets him apart. He finished the 2017 season with 16.5 tackles for a loss and 6.5 sacks for Nashville Christian School, according to MaxPreps. He probably will settle in at defensive tackle in Knoxville.
- Defensive end Greg Emerson is the Vols’ most heralded defensive prospect in the Class of 2018. Lawless could end up as the best player in the class, though. He has to fine-tune some of his technique, but the potential is certainly there.
