Tennessee AD John Currie: Buyout for coach Butch Jones and staff is $13 million
Butch Jones is out at Tennessee. And his coaching staff may be the next to go at the end of the season. So, how much will this move — and these potential moves — cost the Vols?
At a press conference Sunday night, Tennessee athletic director John Currie said that the buyout for Jones and his staff will be $13 million, according to Rocky Top Insider. However, if the assistant coaches take jobs elsewhere, the amount of the buyout would be mitigated.
Currie says the buyout for Jones and his staff would be upwards of $13 million but would be mitigated if any assistants take jobs elsewhere if they aren't retained at Tennessee

The cost of Jones’ buyout alone is $8,257,580, according to a release from Tennessee, per SEC Country’s Blake Morgan:

It’s not much of a surprise that Jones was fired and that the Vols likely will want to assemble a new staff. Tennessee fans have been calling for Jones’ firing for months. The Vols have struggled this season, falling to 4-6 after their loss Saturday to Missouri.
While the moves may be expensive, it’s likely that Vols fans are still happy with the decision, given the team’s recent results.
