Tennessee and Northwestern have more than just football in common. Both teams can eat.
The Vols and Wildcats ate more than 5,000 pounds of food during a dinner supplied by Outback Steakhouse on Saturday, as part of the Outback Bowl festivities. No. 23 Tennessee will play No. 13 Northwestern at noon on Jan. 1.
The teams consumed 750 pounds of sirloin steak, 750 pounds of chicken and 900 pounds of ribs. The Vols and Wildcats also ate 625 pounds of macaroni and cheese, 1,600 coconut shrimp, 160 bloomin’ onion appetizers, 700 pounds of house salad, 1,600 honey wheat dinner rolls, 1,200 pounds of cheesecake and 60 gallons of barbecue sauce, according to outbackbowl.com.
The bowl week hospitality is far from over for the Vols. Tennessee and Northwestern will compete in a bowling competition Sunday night, attend a Tampa Bay Lightning game on Monday and visit Busch Gardens amusement park on Tuesday.
