KNOXVILLE, Tenn. — Tennessee will wear their “Smokey Grey” uniforms for Saturday’s rivalry game with Florida, according to a department spokesperson.
The Vols last wore the popular grey-and-orange combination in last season’s 38-31 home victory over Georgia, a game that saw UT rally from a 21-point deficit.
Tennessee (3-0) kicks off against the Gators (3-0) at 3:30 p.m. on Saturday.
This will be the first time the Vols have worn the grey uniform combination.
“Nike actually went up into the Smoky Mountains and actually developed that Smokey Grey for us based off of the mountains,” Butch Jones told 247Sports last summer.
“I thought that was a great addition, and we’re not changing ‘em. They’ll be the same. And we’re making a tradition of that.”
Corey Vereen said the team likes the uniforms, but safety Micah Abernathy said he doesn’t think it will affect his performance.
“The jersey is pretty cool,” Vereen said. “They look pretty nice.”
Said Abernathy, “We’re more focused on winning the game than what we look like.”
