KNOXVILLE, Tenn. — With Todd Kelly Jr. sidelined with an ankle injury, the headliner of Tennessee’s 2016 recruiting class earned his first-career start on Saturday.
Freshman Nigel Warrior, a Vols legacy, will start opposite Micah Abernathy at safety against the Missouri Tigers.
The Vols need a win against the Tigers on Saturday to keep pace in the SEC East standings.
Warrior, the son of former Tennessee All-American Dale Carter, has 15 tackles this season, mostly on special teams.
The former 4-star recruit saw extended action against Tennessee Tech on Nov. 5, recording a team-high 7 stops.
The Vols also had an offensive line change Saturday, as senior center Dylan Wiesman missed his home finale with a high-ankle sprain. Redshirt freshman Venzell Boulware is also slated to make his first-career start.
