KNOXVILLE, Tenn. — Tennessee has yet to be tested this season, but that will quickly change Wednesday.
The Vols kick off the Battle 4 Atlantis at noon ET against No. 18 Purdue. Tennessee won its first two games against Presbyterian and High Point by an average of 33 points.
The defense has been stellar, especially in the first half against the lesser opponents. The storyline will be if the defensive system can stress a solid team such as Purdue enough for the upset. The game will serve as a good early barometer of where the team actually stands.
The Vols have looked better than their predicted 13th-place finish in the SEC. This will be the platform to prove just how good Tennessee can be this season. The goal of the team is to come back with the hardware from a tournament victory.
Grabbing a solid RPI win in November to help bolster the tournament résumé come March wouldn’t hurt, either.
