There’s only one prominent school in the state of Tennessee in Todd Kelly’s mind.
Tennessee’s junior defensive back took a jab at in-state rival Vanderbilt on Saturday while discussing Tennessee defensive coordinator Bob Shoop, who recruited Kelly while he was the defensive coordinator at Vandy.
“I knew him, but I’m at the only school in Tennessee that’s important,” Kelly said according to The Chattanooga Times Free Press’ Patrick Brown.
Shoop served as Vanderbilt’s defensive coordinator from 2011-13 before spending the past two seasons at Penn State. Clearly, his presence wasn’t enough to convince Kelly, a Knoxville, Tenn., native, to commit to his hometown school’s archrival.
Unfortunately, the teams will have a while to wait before taking those comments to the gridiron. The Volunteers and Commodores will renew their rivalry Nov. 26 in Nashville. The Vols won last year’s matchup, 53-28, at Neyland Stadium.
