Tennessee wide receiver Pig Howard has been dismissed from the program, coach Butch Jones announced Wednesday.
Howard violated team rules, but Jones said the issue will remain between the student-athlete and the team. He was made aware of Howard’s violations Wednesday.
Howard was suspended for the Vols’ season opener against Bowling Green for a violation of team rules. At the time, Jones indicated the incident dated back a couple of months.
Earlier this week, Howard was declared out indefinitely as the senior receiver dealt with ankle and elbow injuries in addition to a concussion.
Howard had one catch for eight yards in two games this season. He has totaled 112 receptions for 984 yards and five touchdowns in his career and has been the team’s leading receiver in each of the past two seasons.
Butch says Pig Howard has been dismissed from the team, and it's unrelated to his injuries.
