KNOXVILLE — There was a lot going on inside and outside of the Tennessee football building on Thursday, with four players and Coach Butch Jones holding press conferences, and a thud scrimmage in the afternoon.
The Vols also debuted No. 10 in the Amway Coaches Poll on Thursday. It marked the program’s first appearance in the top 10 since 2006, when College Football Hall of Famer Phillip Fulmer was leading the program.
Jones said he didn’t want to waste a minute on talking about the poll, though he acknowledged that he realized it was good for the fans.
Jalen Hurd made an appearance before the media, a sign that the junior might be ready to become more of a leader for the program.
Hurd will be a face of the Vols, and his Heisman Trophy candidacy would get a lift from regular interviews, not to mention all of the UT fans who want to know more about the dynamic runner from Hendersonville.
