Tennessee football officially announced the addition of wide receivers coach Kevin Beard and quality control assistant Tony Sorrentino on Wednesday after making the hires earlier this week.
Beard, a former Miami (Fla.) receiver and assistant, comes to Knoxville from the same role at Florida International. He joined the FIU staff in December after a year as an offensive analyst at Georgia. He fills the ninth and final full-time assistant position on Tennessee’s staff.
“Coach Beard is a young, energetic football coach that has championship pedigree from his college playing days,” head coach Butch Jones said in a statement. He will do a great job working with our receivers and be a huge asset on the recruiting trail.”
Beard has experience with new offensive coordinator Larry Scott. They were on staff together at Miami from 2014-2015. He played receiver at Miami in the early 2000s and was a member of the Hurricanes’ undefeated national championship team in 2001.
He replaces former receivers coach Zach Azzanni, who left for the same position with the Chicago Bears.
Sorrentino comes from the Jacksonville Jaguars, where he was an assistant receivers coach. Before that, he was the quarterbacks coach and passing game coordinator at The College of New Jersey.
“Coach Sorrentino comes to Knoxville after the last 4 years working with receivers such as Allen Robinson and Allen Hurns of the Jacksonville Jaguars,” Jones said. “He’s going to bring a high-level of expertise to our entire coaching staff.”
