KNOXVILLE, Tenn. — Tennessee holds a commanding 38-0 halftime lead over Tennessee Tech, but the Vols are by no means a settled football team.
Tennessee (5-3) started its eighth different combination in the secondary, and its sixth different offensive line unit against the Golden Eagles (3-5) before the Homecoming Game crowd of 98,343 at Neyland Stadium.
Vols cornerback Malik Foreman did not dress for the game, as was first reported by SEC Country, leading to junior Justin Martin making his second start of the season.
It’s the third game Foreman has missed since injuring his shoulder against Texas A&M on Oct. 8.
Offensive guard Jack Jones dressed for the game, but he has been held out as a precaution. Jones had surgery to repair torn thumb ligaments after the Vols’ 49-10 loss to Alabama on Oct. 15.
Coleman Thomas started at center, Dylan Wiesman was at right guard and Chance Hall was the right tackle. Jashon Robertson was back at left guard and Brett Kendrick started at left tackle.
In other injury news, Evan Berry drew the start at safety, but he left the game with a lower right leg injury at the 6:57 mark of the first quarter.
Micah Abernathy, who missed the South Carolina game because of a pulled hamstring suffered against Alabama, replaced Berry for a series.
True freshman Nigel Warrior then came on in relief of Abernathy, who was likely held out for precautionary reasons with Tennessee having built a large lead.
Tennessee quarterback Josh Dobbs was also pulled out in the second quarter, replaced by Quinten Dormady at the 5:30 mark.
Dobbs’ passing line is 12-of-13 passing for 183 yards with 3 touchdowns.
Linebacker Cortez McDowell returned to see his first action since he suffered an apparent concussion against Texas A&M.
