Tennessee football injury update: Darrell Taylor reinstated, Evan Berry makes Kentucky trip

LEXINGTON, Ky. — Tennessee defensive end Darrell Taylor returned from suspension,  and SEC Country has learned that senior kick returner Evan Berry is expected to play tonight.

Coach Butch Jones issued a release on Taylor’s return, also confirming that that junior quarterback Quinten Dormady didn’t not travel for the Vols’ game at Kentucky.

“Darrell has completed the requirements we had set for him to return to play and he will be available tonight against Kentucky,” Jones said in the release. “He must continue to meet criteria we have set forth for him on a daily and weekly basis.”

Taylor made the game-winning defensive stop in Tennessee’s 42-41 double-overtime win over Georgia Tech in both teams’ season opener. He was suspended three weeks ago after getting into an altercation at practice with freshman offensive guard Trey Smith.

Jone said in the release that Dormady, who started the first five games for the Vols, will have season-ending shoulder surgery.

Dormady traveled to Alabama last week and was available to play, and he played two snaps in Tennessee’s 15-9 loss to South Carolina two weeks ago.

The shoulder injury was diagnosed last week.

Berry, who led the nation in kick return average two years ago and was second in the nation at the time of his season-ending injury last November, has not played for the Vols since the season-opening game.

The fact Tennessee put Berry on their 70-man travel roster indicates there’s some optimism he can play.

Berry has practiced the past two weeks, but he has not played and he did not make the trip to Tuscaloosa last week.
