Tennessee football injury update: Will McBride sidelined, O-Line paper thin

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. — Tennessee freshman quarterback Will McBride did not dress for the LSU game on account of a head injury, according to a team source.

Vols’ redshirt freshman quarterback Jarrett Guarantano got his fifth start of the season after missing last week’s game at Missouri with a sprained right ankle.

The Vols are also still without incumbent starting offensive tackles Brett Kendrick and Drew Richmond, both of whom suffered head injuries against Kentucky on Oct 28.

Senior Coleman Thomas, who started last week against Missouri, was seen with a cast on his wrist before the game and is also not dressed.

Other previous starting linemen out include sophomore Marcus Tatum, who last played against South Carolina (Oct. 14) before suffering a lower body injury, and junior Jack Jones, who last played against Georgia (Sept. 30) before retiring from football with a neck injury.

The injuries mean Tennessee doesn’t have any scholarship backups available at quarterback or on the offensive line.

It’s the Vols first game without Butch Jones, who was fired last Sunday in the wake of a 50-17 loss at Missouri.

Incumbent head coach Brady Hoke has moved quarterbacks coach Mike Canales from the sideline to the press box, while offensive coordinator Larry Scott has moved down to the field.

Tennessee needs to beat LSU and Vanderbilt to go to a fourth straight bowl game. The Tennessee seniors say they want to be the first Vols’ class in history to win four straight bowl games.
