There is no debate that wide receiver Jauan Jennings and running back John Kelly will be two of the most important players on the Tennessee offense this season.
The two can’t do everything on their own, though. The Vols will need other players to step up at the skill positions.
WMNL’s Josh Ward offers three names of players to be on the lookout for this fall.
Ward believes sophomore Marquez Callaway is primed to make an impact at wide receiver.
Callaway met with the media after Tuesday’s practice. This signals the coaching staff has trust in Callaway and possibly expects him to play a role in the offense going forward.
Callaway had 1 catch for 13 yards last season.
Ward thinks freshman running back Ty Chandler will be the one to step up as the primary backup to John Kelly.
Chandler rated as a 4-star prospect coming out of high school and has the big-play ability to get onto the field this fall.
The last player Ward mentions is wide receiver Tyler Byrd.
Byrd’s talent with the football becomes clear the second he breaks into a sprint.
The Tennessee offense tried to get creative with getting the ball into Byrd’s hands late last season. The sophomore finished with 15 receptions for 209 yards and 8 rushes for 63 yards.
