Tennessee football podcast
WMNL’s Josh Ward discusses comments Tennessee coach Butch Jones made at the Knoxville Rotary Club Tuesday.
Jones spoke about the negativity surrounding his program this offseason.
“I know we live in a society of negativity, people get paid for clicks on the internet,” Jones said, as reported by Grant Ramey with 247Sports. “But I’m here to tell you, when you step back and peel the onion back, look at the layers, we have a lot of things to be proud of.
“You look at how far we’ve come in four years.”
Ward believes the “society of negativity” is overblown. The voices on Twitter and the internet might be louder, but the overall numbers aren’t very tmany.
SEC Country’s own internet poll backs up what Ward said. Around 80 percent of the 1,451 (as of 8 a.m. Aug. 2) Vol fans voted Jones would be coaching in Neyland for a sixth straight season.
Jones boasts a 30-21 record in his tenure with the Vols.
Tennessee has won bowl games in three consecutive seasons, and the first time in 12 years the Vols finished three straight seasons with a winning record.
Tennessee has finished with back-to-back Top 25 finishes for the first time in nine years.
