Tennessee coach Jeremy Pruitt has been all over the SEC, and that has helped shape him into the leader of the Vols.
DawgNation’s Seth Emerson joins the SEC Country Tennessee podcast to discuss Pruitt’s past. He was the Georgia defensive coordinator from 2014-2015, and Pruitt coached under Nick Saban at Alabama in two different stints in between the Georgia job.
This likely will have a large influence on how he will run his program. It will change a lot in the Vols program, from the way they evaluate players to media access.
Emerson said Georgia coach Kirby Smart is a good comparison with Pruitt. Smart served as Saban’s defensive coordinator from 2008-2015. He has a 20-6 record and has had early success in his first two years as the head coach at Georgia.
“I can see why Tennessee chose this blueprint,” Emerson said. “In a lot of ways, Kirby got Pruitt the Tennessee job. If Kirby isn’t having this success this year, then does it give some people some pause? People might think there is only one Nick Saban.
“Jimbo Fisher won a national championship. Kirby Smart is in the playoffs and won the SEC championship in his second year.”
