Tennessee senior Jonathan Kongbo tweeted on Friday that he was moving from defensive end to linebacker.
It’s a move that makes a lot of sense in the new 3-4 scheme. Kongbo could play more of a pass-rushing role, which surely the coaching staff hopes allows him to use his athleticism more effectively.
This news comes on the heels of middle linebacker Darrin Kirkland Jr.’s decision to stay at Tennessee. He had tweeted in late May of his intention to transfer, but coach Jeremy Pruitt convinced him to stay.
The linebacker position needs to be more productive next season. The coaching staff is trying to find different ways to get more out of the group.
WNML’s Josh Ward and SEC Country’s Mike Griffith discussed the Kirkland and Kongbo news on Rocky Talk. They also broke down the latest SEC rule changes and how they might impact the Vols.
