Tennessee landed the cornerstone of the Class of 2019 in Wanya Morris to begin May.
The 5-star lineman now becomes one of the most important peer recruiters in the class. Coach Jeremy Pruitt is trying to fill the class with elite talent. Receiving Morris’ help will be imperative.
Morris will be on Rocky Top this weekend with important visitors such as Suwannee, Ga., cornerback Warren Burrell (North Gwinnett) scheduled to check out Tennessee.
The coaching staff believes Morris’ commitment gives the Vols a certain amount of legitimacy with prospects. Before the staff was selling the vision of a first-year coach and a team coming off an 8-loss season. With Morris in the fold, there is real momentum that points to the rebuild.
Getting Morris to regularly come on campus helps the Vols situation with him, too. Morris has already used his Tennessee official visit. Auburn and Georgia are still looming threats with their official visits in the back pocket.
Morris making return trips to Knoxville on a regular basis is something the staff will push for until the early signing period in December.
WMNL’s Josh Ward and SEC Country’s Blake Morgan discuss Morris and the latest in Tennessee’s recruiting on Rocky Talk.
