KNOXVILLE, Tenn. — The so called “talkin’ season” is just about over, and most journalists and true fans would agree not a minute too soon.
Tennessee football has a lot going on for Vols fans to be excited about, between the maturation of the team with new assistant coaches, to the advances made in the weight room under new strength and conditioning coach Rock Gullickson.
Tennessee football coach Butch Jones has all but announced two quarterbacks will play, with junior Quinten Dormady emerging as the leader and Jarrett Guarantano continuing his improvement.
Once those discussion begin in earnest, with access granted to players and coaches, much of the manufactured story lines will disappear.
The “hot seat” blasts that became a lazy weekly blast from various media entities won’t resurface until there’s actually some steam behind them.
Finally, perhaps the dumbest offseason issue of the year — what qualifies as a disappointment and how a coach is supposed to address it — will be put to rest with zero consequence and no one wiser for the temporary stir it caused.
