Each week, we spotlight the performances of Tennessee’s Class of 2018 recruits in how they fared with their respective high school teams. In this edition, we look at defensive tackle Brant Lawless, tackle Tanner Antonutti and cornerback Brandon Cross.
Tennessee received commitments from three of top defensive linemen from the state of Tennessee in the Class of 2018.
Greg Emerson might be the most talked about, and D’Andre Litaker’s injury history gets a lot of fans talking about him. Brant Lawless is less talked about, but he delivers production every time he steps onto the field.
Lawless helped lead Nashville Christian School to a 55-14 win over Rossville Christian Academy.
The 6-foot-3, 280-pound defensive tackle finished the game with 4 tackles, 2.5 for a loss and 1.5 sacks, according to MaxPreps. He has 9 tackles for loss this season and Nashville Christian is 5-2.
Lawless has the ability to clog up running lanes with his size and strength. He also has shown the ability to disrupt opposing backfields.
Tackle commit Tanner Antonutti had played on the offensive line before his senior season, but he also split time at tight end.
This season, Antonutti has played solely left tackle, and Ensworth High School in Nashville, Tenn., has done pretty well. The Tigers defeated Father Ryan 31-12 on Friday to push their record to 5-2 on the season.
Antonutti is trying to hone his lineman skills for when he makes his way to Knoxville. The Vols project him as a lineman, not a tight end. He seems to be adjusting well to the role.
Tennessee has two cornerback commits from Orlando, Fla., in Tanner Ingle and Brandon Cross.
Cross has done an excellent job helping lead the Jones High School defense.
Jones has allowed 14 points in its past four games, and Cross is a big reason for the impressive stat line for the defense.
Jones holds a 4-1 record, and Cross will play a large role for the rest of the season.
