KNOXVILLE, Tenn. — Tennessee football is headed for another Top 25 season under Butch Jones, according to the Sporting News preseason rankings.
It would be the first time since 1999-2001 that the Vols had three consecutive seasons with Top 25 finishes.
Tennessee posted back-t0-back Top 25 finishes the past two seasons with 9-4 records — the first time the Vols have had back-to-back Top 25 finishes in 10 years.
“This is a pivotal season for Butch Jones, who has danced from hot seat and high expectations through his time on Rocky Top,” the magazine’s narrative states.
It would seem most would appreciate a coach taking a program from its historically low depths of 2-12 vs. the SEC in 2011-12 to back-to-back Top 25 seasons in a 4-year window, but Tennessee has a segment of “NegaVol” fans who like to troll whoever is the head coach.
Many fans have grown tired of the negative minority, however, and begun blocking them on social media outlets.
The SEC had five teams in the Top 15, as discussed in today’s podcast.
