KNOXVILLE, Tenn. — The Tennessee football home opening game against Indiana State has a time and TV channel.
The home stadium portion of the Vols’ season will kick off at 4 p.m. on Sept. 9 and be broadcast on the SEC Network.
This will be the teams’ first-ever meeting.
The Sycamores, perhaps best known as the alma mater of NBA Hall of Fame basketball player Larry Bird, finished the 2016 season with a 4-7 record, eighth in the Missouri Valley Conference.
Tennessee won its 2016 home opener against Appalachian State, 20-13, in overtime. The Vols went on to a 9-4 record, defeating Nebraska 38-24 in the Music City Bowl to finish the third-consecutive season with a bowl win and the second in a row ranked in the Top 25.
Tennessee’s season opener will be a neutral-site game at 8 p.m. on Sept. 4 against Georgia Tech in the Chick-fil-A Kickoff Game in Atlanta’s new Mercedes-Benz Stadium.
