Forget hitting the road for satellite camps: Tennessee is letting the recruits come to them.
The Volunteers are deviating from the pack by hosting high school teams for practices and scrimmages at the Anderson Training Center. For example, Tennessee hosted Knoxville Catholic and Murfreesboro Oakland (Nashville) for a practice Friday night. Next week, Oak Ridge High School (Oak Ridge, Tenn.) and five-star wideout Tee Higgins will be coming to town for a practice, according to Saturday Down South’s Michael Wayne Bratton.
This is Tennessee’s version of an anti-satellite camp and it’s a wise wrinkle. The Volunteers get an exclusive glimpse at some of the top high school talent on their turf, and the camps also give potential recruits a chance to check out Tennessee’s facilities.
So while Jim Harbaugh and other coaches span the country trying to reel in the best talent out there, Butch Jones and Tennessee will sit back and let the top talent check out Knoxville for themselves.
