KNOXVILLE, Tenn. — One week after proclaiming Tennessee as the favorite in his recruitment, Maleik Gray made his choice of schools official on his Twitter account.
“I can officially say that I’m committed to The University of Tennessee!!” Gray said on his Twitter account on Sunday.
Gray, a 6-foot-2, 186-pound 4-star safety from LaVergne (Tenn.) High School is rated the No. 57 player in the nation and the No. 5 safety.
Gray attended the Vols’ satellite camp at Tennessee State University on June 5, raving about Tennessee’s new defensive coordinator, Bob Shoop.
“Coach Shoop has already showed me some things that could make me very successful,” Gray said. “He has shown me how a lot of the defense could be predicated around me; there are some scheme things I’ve never seen before.”
Gray also said he likes what Coach Butch Jones is working on.
“Something I’d like to be a part of,” Gray said, foreshadowing Sunday’s big announcement.
The 247Sports “Crystal Ball” had previously listed Florida State as the favorite for Gray’s services, followed by Tennessee and Alabama.
