Tennessee lucks out with controversial non-fumble call
Tennessee caught a huge break late in the third quarter when Vols quarterback Josh Dobbs appeared to fumble the ball near midfield while being sacked for a 12-yard loss. Oklahoma recovered the fumble and had a clear path to the end zone, but game officials ruled the play dead, saying Dobbs forward progress was stopped.
The Vols were nursing a 17-3 lead at the time, and had the fumble stood, the Sooners – who are struggling mightily on offense – would have been right back in the game.
Needless to say, Oklahoma coach Bob Stoops was not happy and ran on the field to furiously argue the call.
