Tennessee named four of its most prominent players as permanent team captains for the 2016 season during the Orange and White Game on Saturday.
Cornerback Cameron Sutton, quarterback Joshua Dobbs, running back Alvin Kamara and linebacker Jalen Reeves-Maybin were given the honor just before the second half began of the spring game.
“As a leader on this team, I’m going to hold my teammates accountable to a high standard,” said Reeves-Maybin, who has missed the last half of spring practice with a shoulder injury.
Kamara encouraged the fans to continue to support them. Saturday’s announced attendance was 67,027.
“We need it,” Kamara said of the fan support. “We’re going to take it all the way.”
Sutton, Dobbs and Reeves-Maybin are seniors. Kamara is the most surprising selection because he just transferred to Tennessee in 2015. He’ll be a junior this season. Sutton, Kamara and Reeves-Maybin all considered leaving Tennessee early for the NFL but decided to remain in college.
Tennessee coach Butch Jones made the announcement. He said there would be a special announcement earlier this week during the game.
