KNOXVILLE, Tenn. — Tennessee lost 86-76 to No. 8 Gonzaga in the “Battle on Broadway,” sleepwalking through much of the first half Sunday before clawing back and turning a rout into a game late.
The slow start was too much to overcome, though, with coach Rick Barnes saying afterward, “If we were playing horseshoes we’d be a pretty good team.”
The Vols (6-5) have now battled hard against four ranked teams — Wisconsin, Oregon, North Carolina and Gonzaga — but have lost all four games.
On Monday’s podcast, WMNL’s Josh Ward and SEC Country’s Jesse Simonton talk about the “Almost Vols,” recapping their loss to the Bulldogs as well as previewing a big matchup at ETSU on Thursday.
They also talk about Tennessee’s football schedule before Christmas, as the team continues to prepare for Nebraska in the Music City Bowl.
Finally, they finish with a little recruiting talk, including the decision by 4-star cornerback Lamont Wade.
Give it a listen.
